Subject: Poor service/fabricated level checks
Dear Jiffy Lube,
I am writing regarding my recent disappointing experience at Jiffy Lube. My fiancee and I took her car to Jiffy Lube # 1448 last Sunday to get an oil change and level checks. After she paid and we were on our way out, I asked if the power steering fluid was low, since the steering seemed a little rigid. The woman at the cash register said she would ask the technician. She came back in a minute and informed us that he "would check." This seemed unusual because a levels check was supposed to have been already completed as a part of the service.
Once she returned, we were informed that the technician said that her 1997 Buick LeSabre did not have a reservoir for power steering fluid, and the we could look into having one installed. We found this unusual, but neither of us are car experts so we took Jiffy Lube at its word and left. I should note, our invoice says "Fill Power Steering Fluid - OK." I texted a family member who has done work on these cars in the past, and he instantly informed me that this assertion was ridiculous. He promptly showed me where the reservoir was and checked it for us, and also requested that I let Jiffy Lube know that I had "a real mechanic" look at it. Thankfully, the level is okay. Though if we wouldn't haven taken this further step, we would have never known.
This is especially egregious because the service cost $77.03. I thought your service might be worth the cost because it is convenient and you are supposed to get all of your levels checked. Evidently this is not the case. Evidently Jiffy Lube's technicians - or at least this one - do not know where the reservoirs are in order to check them. What's worse is that he marked this as "OK" without actually checking. If he didn't know where the reservoir was, he could've probably Googled it in two minutes on his phone. That's the bare minimum amount of appropriate service one would expect for $77.03.
Jiffy Lube, I have used your service in the past and have been pleased. However, this is an example of an awful and disrespectful experience that would cause someone to discontinue being your patron. I hope you can rectify this in some way. I feel a full refund would be appropriate.
Sincerely,
