KDKA

Dear KDKA,

On the 5:00 News, Patrice King Brown said that it was not illegal to fail to fill out the census. Yet on my census envelope it says "required by law." How do I know which is right?

Allegheny County 2/17: Avoiding the Squirrel Hill Tunnel at Any Cost

Penn Avenue, Wilkinsburg. Thumb ruins a shot.

South Avenue, Wilkinsburg.

Allegheny County 1/28 and 1/29

Al's Cafe, Bethel Park, 1/28: What is mulligatawny?

The waitress told me it was Irish. The Internet does not seem to concur: "The soup is an Anglo-Indian concoction of curry, rice, apples, and chicken. It's also rich and creamy, 'cuz ya add heavy cream to the broth." Apples in soup is certainly different, but in a good way.

Half Price Books, McKnight Road, 1/29: I find it difficult to believe that this genre requires an entire shelf.

Pittsburgh 1/22: The Day in Photos

Marwood Avenue, Forest Hills. Approximately 1:00 PM.

Are they finally gonna tow this thing?

Community Center, Bethel Park. Approximately 8:00 PM.

Shady Back Alley, South Side. Approximately 10:00 PM.

Allegheny County 1/19: Various

If you ever get into a time machine at the Coffee Tree in Shadyside and travel to back in time to 4:22 PM on January 19, 2010, and intend to drive to my apartment, you may see some of these things along the way.

More battered in recent weeks than a Charlie Sheen love interest, Henne Jewelers stands boarded in defiance of all vandals and thieves.

So many choices. East Liberty? Homewood? Wilkinsburg? The future is full of possibilities.

Maybe some other time. I guess I'll just hang a right on Penn and head home.

Allegheny County 1/06 and 1/07

South Side, 1/06. "The White Eagle." Haven't been there in a while. Perks: They do not take credit cards.

Bethel Park, 1/07. "The Warehouse Cafe." The author's assumption was correct.
